Getting Started

Things to check off your list:

Finish reading the guide
Read the rules
Read the intro
Set up your profile
Post in the Join Skoria board
The first thing you need to do is take a moment to read the rules page. This page has all of the global rules on the site, meaning they are site-wide. Keep in mind to watch out for stickies on boards because they might have board-specific reminders or rules that must be followed within those boards and categories. There are some other things you'll need to know, though you are not required to read the full user manual in order to join. That would be a bit silly, as the manual is there for reference, you are not required to remember it!

You can keep this page open and use the checkboxes check your progress! Check off your steps as you go through each task. All that you are required to do at the time of joining is those five things. No need to read everything on the site!

Some other things you should know!

🐾 We allow wolves, humans, coyotes, and jackals.

🐾 Our posting requirement is 250+ words, you must post at least 5 times a month.

🐾 We do not accept PowerPlaying or GodMode unless the other player gives permission in-post first.

🐾 Scent trails (ST) are points that we earn by posting and from events. We use them in the shop to buy things.

🐾 All characters are welcome to hunt but you'll need staff approval before going for the kill because of how our hunt system works. Don't stress too much over it, its a simple system!

🐾 There is a weather widget in the sidebar that tells you the current weather site-wide! Reference this in your posts.

🐾 We may sometimes do forum-wide plots, in which all new threads must reference the plot somehow. Tons of fun!

🐾 It is the year 72AE (2087), 72 years after the pandemic broke out in 2015!

🐾 Sometimes you will encounter NPCs that have the Skoria virus. These NPCs are played by staff.

🐾 Staff also do random risk-rolls and your character's status in the world affect what happens!

🐾 The year is 72AE. So characters born this year would have month (Sept) and year in their birthday field. As an example, our resident Nomad who shares all the news is 30 years old and his birthday is set as Sept 42AE. If you need help with this just ask, we're more than glad to help you out!

Starting as a Wolf

Are you interested in bringing in a wolf character? Wolves are adaptable creatures who excel at hunting and fighting. Lumped into the "wolf" category are also coyotes and jackals. Coyotes, wolves and jackals can all interbreed. Here's a checklist of the most important things you should know!

Your wolf can start out in a pack or as a loner. Lone wolves are far more susceptible to the elements and to other dangers such as predators, though. Joining a pack provides a slew of benefits that are not otherwise gained by living abroad. We encourage everyone to find a pack that suits them. That said, we are in the early days of life on our site and we're afraid everyone will start out as loners in the beginning.

🐾 We accept reaslitic colors and markings only.

🐾 Your wolf can have any eye color.

🐾 Extra-small and extra-large wolves must be purchased.

🐾 Some wolf species are limited and must be purchased to be made.

🐾 Your wolf can have any body type in this guide!

🐾 The personality of your wolf is your choice!

🐾 Wolves must be purebred upon joinoing; only characters born on-site can be a mix of different wolf species.

🐾 Wolves can speak to one another in "language" but can not speak with humans outside of body language.

Starting as a Human

Are you interested in bringing in a human character? Humans are capable of creating tools and weapons to defend themselves. They can also build their own homes, making them more crafty. Humans are small in numbers, greatly outnumbered by the wolf population.

Your human starts out in Gettysburg - a city specifically meant for the people of Skoria. It is the last remains of human civilization that anyone can remember. A lot of it is decrepit but there are some nice areas too. There are good benefits to living in the town. One benefit is having a job and family! Just be wary, even though your character can be a Nomad and live alone, they are susceptible to all kinds of dangerous things, including infection and animal attack!

🐾 We accept reaslitic races and attributes only.

🐾 Your human can have any eye color.

🐾 Extra-small and extra-large humans must be purchased.

🐾 The sizes refer to height, so think of "large" as being a tall person and "small" as being a short person! 🐾 Your human can have any body type in this guide!

🐾 The personality of your human is your choice!

🐾 Humans can be mixed race, but you do not have to state their race in your application.

🐾 Humans can speak any teachable human language but cannot communicate with wolves past body language.

Choosing some Stats!

Upon joining your character is given a pre-set number for stats based on their body type. Each body type starts out with 110 total stat points. In addition to this are 10 points that you can choose to distribute yourself. They must not push the lowest stat for your body type higher than the other stats, though, and you should remember that balance is key! Also note that no stat can surpass 50 upon joining.

You also get 120 points that you get to distribute yourself into resolve, wisdom, and knowledge. Choose wisely! This is what determines how your character handles certain situations, how quickly they learn, and how charming others will find them.

Your total combined stats, including physical and mental, should add up to 240 by the time you are done.

Each stat does something different. So you should try to pick stats that match what your character will be like. This means taking a few things into consideration. We know this sounds tough, but once you get going you'll understand a bit more!

Power How strong they are, how capable they are of feats of strength.
Stamina How long they last in strenuous activities or while traveling.
Speed How quick they are, how capable they are of dodging danger.
Resolve How well they handle any stressful situations that occur.
Wisdom How intelligent they are in life; living wisdom, not book-smarts.
Charisma How easily liked they are; how well they can charm others.
The table below gives you an idea of what stats each body tyope will have. This applies to both humans and wolves for ease. The only exception to the stat count is that Obese individual have an additional ten points deducted from their physical total. Let's face it, they just can't keep up with everyone else.

BODY TYPE POWER STAMINA SPEED
Brawny 50 35 25
Husky 48 46 16
Chubby 48 42 20
Obese 45 40 15
Stout 39 36 35
Lean 36 36 38
Willowy 20 42 48
Lithe 20 40 50
Scrawny 20 45 45
Gaunt 17 50 43

It's clear to see how important it is to choose a body type and personality that suit your character. So be sure to take your time. Pick a body type that suits your needs. Try to pick one that suits what you have in mind for your character. Aside from obese and chubby, it is hard to change the body type of your character as it is simply how genetics have put them together. The same can be said for mental stats. Consider where you want your character to excel so that you get the best out of them. You can't play them as being utterly charming if they have no charisma - so think before you apply!
